Minnesota Leadership Center tackles engagement and morale at work

New conference bridges the gap between Faith and the workplace

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Aug. 17, 2017 — A 2015 Gallup Poll shows that employees who are actively disengaged at work are more likely to have health problems than engaged employees – a point illustrated by the fact that actively disengaged employees experience 2.17 unhealthy days per month, as opposed to engaged employees who only experience 1.25. This problem is compounded by Gallup’s finding in the 2017 State of the Workplace Report that 70% of U.S. workers are not engaged at work.

There are many factors that contribute to workplace engagement. One major factor that shows a definite link is how inclusive an organization is to religion and faith-based requests at work. The 2008 Faith at Work study from the Society for Human Resource Management shows that 62% of people indicated their morale was affected by their workplace’s religious accommodations.

As part of its efforts to raise the level of leadership in Minnesota, the Minnesota Leadership Center is launching a new conference focused on the problem of engagement and morale for people of faith. The Walking in Faith Conference is an effort to help Christian businesspeople integrate their faith at work, and also throughout their life. When asked about the conference, Chief Learning Officer Shari Harris described it as “a place where people can discover their purpose, learn how to build a community in their workplace, and fully express their faith without offending other employees or getting in trouble with HR.”

According to the website, Walking in Faith Conference equips people with “awareness of how living a life built in Faith increases effectiveness and lowers stress, resources to develop and integrate your Life’s Core Purpose, tools to begin building your Legacy, and the Key Steps to developing a Christian Resource Group at work.”

The conference takes place November 4 in Shoreview, Minnesota. Ticket information can be found at mnleadership.org/tickets.
